Service Begins for REM Ohio’s Newest Opportunities Center
LANCASTER, OHIO – REM Ohio announced today that they will be opening their newest Opportunities Social Center, located at 1560 Sheridan Drive, in July. The new 3,200 square foot center is home to the company’s Social Program for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The company currently operates a similar center in the Akron and Cleveland areas.
The Opportunities Social Program at the Sheridan Drive location will focus on identifying each individual’s interests, goals and needs from which a customized itinerary of community-based and center activities will be developed. The Opportunities Social Program facilities feature a sensory and exploration area; a computer learning center; a movie and entertainment theater; a fitness and health center; an arts and crafts studio and many more amenities.
In addition, a variety of programs and clubs will be developed based on the identified interests of people attending. “Our Opportunities Social program provides a supportive environment where participants can receive personal enrichment through group involvement outside of the home,” said Mark Pierro, Area Director at REM Ohio. “Our program participants will receive individual attention and participate in activities designed to promote independence and community inclusion.”
The Opportunities Social Center has also announced that they will be holding an open house celebration tentatively scheduled for September. Members of the community are welcome to attend this event, free of charge. This celebratory event will provide entertainment, delicious refreshments and information on the services that REM Ohio has to offer.
