May 20, 2013
BOSTON — On Saturday, May 11th over 300 Network employees and their families from five states joined together to lend a hand in their communities and participate in The MENTOR Network’s 1st Annual Volunteer Day.
Employees and families from REM Ohio joined individuals from California MENTOR, NeuroRestorative, and Massachusetts MENTOR, as well as the corporate office and shared service center in Boston to participate in everything from painting at a Boy & Girls Club to sorting food at a food bank and cleaning up local parks.
“I want to thank everyone who participated in The Network’s First Annual Volunteer Day. We are always looking for ways to contribute to the communities in which we live and work and I am delighted that we had the opportunity to come together as a national network to spend a day giving back,” said Bruce Nardella, The MENTOR Network’s President and Chief Operating Officer.
Employees and their families from both CareMeridian and California MENTOR, both partners of The Network, participated in numerous events throughout the Golden State, including:
- In Sacramento 100 employees volunteers participated in a clean-up of Seymour Park.
- In Bakersfield staff members volunteered at the Mopars of Bakersfield Car Show benefiting the Ronald McDonald House.
- In Campbell staff members volunteered their time at the Children’s Community Dance Recital.
- In Fremont volunteers picked up trash and did landscaping activities in Central Park.
- In Merced volunteers sorted food at the local food bank.
- In Rancho Cucamonga staff members volunteered to help coordinate the Cucamonga Challenge and Wellness Fair.
Nearly 50 NeuroRestorative Florida employees and their families put together “Ditty Bags” for distribution to local homeless shelters at Allendale United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg. The “Ditty Bags” contain personal care items including toothpaste and shampoo.
North Carolina MENTOR staff and their families volunteered at the Central Boys and Girls Club in Asheboro. They planted flowers, mowed the lawn, installed a garden fence and cleaned and organized the inside of the building.
REM Ohio’s employees and their families supported three Boys and Girls Club locations across the state.
- At the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati volunteers stuffed promotional bags to assist the club with a community event and did some spring cleaning.
- At the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland volunteers helped prepare the club’s garden for spring planting and did spring cleaning work.
- At the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus volunteers painted and did gardening on the grounds outside. The team was also able to spend some time with the club’s members, enjoying some exercise and a game of dodge ball in the gym.
Strengthening the fabric of our neighborhoods through volunteerism and philanthropy is an important part of our mission at The MENTOR Network and contributes to our overall goal of building relationships, enhancing lives.
