REM Ohio Embodies Disability Employment Awareness Month

— President Obama signed a proclamation on October 1, recognizing the month of October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The month is dedicated to recognizing the many contributions of Americans with disabilities and raising awareness about the challenges these workers face in finding meaningful employment.

REM Ohio’s Ron Makes the News

REM Ohio’s Ron Moss recently celebrated his 50th birthday and had the party covered by The Chronicle Telegram newspaper. Moss, who has been in REM Ohio since February 2005, lives in a group home with six other individuals in South Amherst City (Lorain County).

Family and friends gathered at the United Methodist Church in South Amherst for the celebration. Among those present at the part were Ron’s mother, Claire, and sister-in-law, Kelly.

REM Ohio, YMCA Team Up to Offer Fitness Classes Tailored to the Needs of Persons with Developmental Disabilities

LANCASTER, OH – In an effort to improve the health and wellness options available to persons with intellectual or other developmental disabilities (I/DD), REM Ohio, a local service provider to individuals living with disabilities, announced they are teaming up with the Lancaster Area YMCA to offer a twice-weekly, fitness class “Ready, Fit & Able”.  These are open to the community, beginning January 13th at the Opportunities Center, located at 1560 Sheridan Drive.

— It is a core belief at REM Ohio, a service provider to adults with developmental disabilities (DD), that everyone should have the same rights and opportunities as all persons, to live, work, and find recreation in the communities where they live. For many individuals with DD, their ability to live fulfilling lives is dependent upon the support they receive from Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in their home, work, and education environments.

Service Begin for REM Ohio’s Newest Opportunities Center – Lancaster

REM Ohio announced today that they will be opening their newest Opportunities Social Center, located at 1560 Sheridan Drive, in July. The new 3,200 square foot center is home to the company’s Social Program for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The company currently operates a similar center in the Akron and Cleveland areas.
