Troy Location Gets Bright, New Remodeling

8285_CaptureIndividuals at REM Ohio’s Troy location are excited about new opportunities brought about by a recent remodeling project at their center-based day program. The project was completed earlier this summer and brings “more life” to the building with fresh colors, as well as new spaces designed for specific training and skill development areas.

In a story that was reported by the Troy Daily News, staff members and close to 30 individuals who participate in day programs at the location celebrated a grand-reopening. They now have more options for learning, being artistic and enjoying days with their peers. The transformation of the building took four months, but was ongoing while participants took part in their daily activities.

Rooms were painted bright shades of green, yellow and orange, with bold purple, striped borders. The remodeling also included new floors and walls, which were built to provide a more definitive space for a lobby. A tool cage was also created for a woodworking room.

“The space is set up so (the individuals) can choose whether they want to do work or art,” Candace Caplinger, an administrative assistant at the location, told the Daily News. “We’re all about choice.”

In addition to the new lobby and woodworking rooms, offices were also created for the location’s administrative employees.

“It’s given the space more life,” Caplinger said. “It’s in a different color scheme now and is brighter, happier and more welcoming.”
